Drawings

Drawing is fundamental to my artistic practice. Through drawing, ideas, feelings, memories are made manifest. For me, these visual fragments are an intuitive response, a process of understanding and communicating something of what it means to be human.
Central to my drawing is perception; literal, physical, imagination, dream, reflection. All of which twist and turn suggesting re-presentations on paper. Layers where boundaries of forms, time and place may be blurred. There is a constant becoming and interplay.

Materials and the physicality of the drawing process are important to me. There is an immediacy, simplicity, and very sensory nature to drawing which I love. I often draw with graphite, but also use charcoal or ink. In fact drawing continues for me when working with paint. Whatever my chosen medium, I enjoy exploring the poetry of mark-making, and un-marking drawing with erasers and other tools. I am excited by the delicate balance between the representation of a chosen subject, and abstraction through the pure delight of drawing and responding to marks and tones on paper.
