When painting I use mostly watercolours or oils. I enjoy the transparency and flow of watercolour, and the physicality of oil paint.

The process of painting for me is a combination of careful observation and intuitive responses to subject, medium and mark-making. As with my drawings, the paintings are about people and what it is to be human. Perceived states or moments are grasped and intertwined creating layers evocative of time and place. There are no fixed boundaries between the known and unknown, and the paintings gradually evolve establishing their meaning.
